Dropcloth Hearts- DIY

Have you ever had a ton of scrap fabric and nothing to do with it? I had a bunch of leftover dropcloth pieces after finishing my deconstructed chair and being the hoarder that I am, I just couldn’t throw them away.

I wanted to refresh my bedroom for Spring and had been scrolling Instagram for inspiration when an idea sprouted to create something out of all the pieces that were left from my last project.

I first cut hearts of all different sizes. When cutting each heart I folded over the fabric to cut 2 for the front and back. I wanted a more primitive look so I went with longer, skinnier hearts, and I cut each heart freehanded so that no two hearts would be exactly the same.

Next I hot-glued the edges leaving about a 1 1/2 inch opening on one side.

I had leftover batting from the chair also, so I ripped it apart to use as my filler. After a few seconds the hot glue was dry enough and I stuffed little pieces at a time until it was as full as I wanted. I used a pair of scissors to push the batting into the tighter areas, and then hot-glued the opening closed.

I didn’t take a photo of my next step, but I wet all of the hearts and tossed them in the dryer. I wanted to make the edges fray a bit. A few of my hearts popped open so I had to glue them closed, but they frayed perfectly.

If you wanted to you could stop right here. They are super cute just thrown in a bowl but I want to hang mine. So I cut little pieces of white yarn and glued them to the backs of each heart.

This is one way I used my hearts. I strung them up on the same yarn and hung them at varying heights above my bed. I love the romantic feel it adds to the room and I couldn’t wait to show you this FREE DIY. Ok, it was free for me because I’m kind of a pack-rat, but even if you didn’t have these materials it would still be super inexpensive.

Thanks so much for stopping by the vlog today & for your continued support! I’d love to know if you try this DIY so don’t forget to tag me on IG if you do. 🤗 Hoping everyone is having a great day! Xx
